You will probably fall in love with Mayumi’s instagram: a  mix of creativity, healthy recipes, imagination, nutrition, colors… and all in a Bento box! Character Bento is a lunch box that features food decorated to look like animals and characters from tv and Mayumi is truly a great Bento Box expert.

Mayumi, who currently lives in California, has self-published the book “Fun Japanese Bento Styling” with her cute character bento collection .In 2012 she got a food coordination certification in Japan, and has attended macrobiotic diet workshops to learn more deeply about food.

Mayumi has been really kind to share with World Kids some of her amazing creations (my kids would go crazy for the below Star Wars bento box)  and her personal approach to healthy food, decoration and Japanese tradition.

“For me, Bento is a good tool to create a healthy body and mind and a great communication tool to express love to your family through quick healthy meals.

I’m on a personal mission to make bento fun for adults, and to create enjoyable bento for kids to eat.

Unlike other character bento, I focus on using only healthy ingredients.

Mayumi does not only think in the visual aspect of the Bento Box, but she also focuses on the nutrient balance:
By using colorful ingredients, you can get a variety of nutrients from different colors of vegetables.

Mayumi is inspired in her bento making by her husband:
It brings smiles to his face. That’s one of the things I like about character bento. I would like to do workshops for local people in English to spread Japanese Bento culture”
