]]>It is a famous Portuguese beach as it has been one of the locations for the windsurfing world cup in the past, it has been featured On her Majesty Secret Service James Bond film, and it has great conditions for surfing and kite surfing. It is also a great beach for families!
On the north part of the beach you will find the Moana Surf School, where we had our first surfing lessons this summer.
The school is run by Alex and it is really convenient for families with kids: the school provides wetsuits and boards for children and adults, you can store safely at the surf school your belongings, there are showers and also next to the school there is a private car park.
Although Guincho is considered a dangerous beach, we felt that our kids were both very well taken care of.
I have never surfed in my life, but this first experience was really fun! I could hardly stand on the board… but my kids did much better!
Moana Surf School’s teachers were all amazing: Vasco, Gaby, Filipo, Wellington… Thank you for sharing with my kids your passion for surfing!
My favorite moment of the day, was heading to Bar do Guincho for an amazing lunch or dinner. The Bar is located next to the surf school and has great meat from Argentina and food ranging from Hamburgers, fish dishes, meat dishes, salads, sandwiches…
The food is so delicious… but the location is even more extraordinary! The restaurant has a huge terrace overlooking the beach with incredible views of the Atlantic and Sintra mountainscape. The restaurant also has an indoor seating area with a warm fireplace for the cooler days.
Watching the sunset each day felt like the perfect and magical way to end our holidays in Portugal.

]]>Their brand new Children’s Club catering to children (from 12 months to 12 years) is run by fully qualified childcare professionals and local team members with an exceptionally high ratio of carers to children.
It is the only resort with a club for children under three years of age and offers special facilities including a sleeping room for daytime siestas.
Children are split into four age groups with activities tailor-made to their abilities and interests.
Theme days include Jungle Safari, Pirates & Princesses and Circus.
Older children can enjoy their own space with activities such as football skills, beach cricket, tennis, snorkelling safaris and Master Chef Classes.
The water park in the Kids’ Club has pressure-controlled sprinklers, so the faster the children run around, the more water sprays out. Isn’t that fun?
The infinity-edged pool in front of the BLU restaurant also has a shallow section for smaller swimmers.
You can find more information on how to plan your visit at the resort’s website.

]]>My beloved mother was from this region in the north of Spain and everytime we visit Asturias we feel she is still with us.
The landscapes are so, so beautiful… that it is difficult to choose some pics for this post.
There are hundreds of small villages and cities worth visiting.
Here is a short list of some of our favorites: Lastres (above), Oviedo, Gijón, Cudillero, Covadonga, Llanes, Ribadesella, Taramundi, Luarca, Cangas de Onís…
I could go on and on.
We do not like crowded beaches so we try to travel to Asturias in July (specially during weekdays) when we have this paradise of blue & green just for us.
They say that “if you visit Asturias, you stay“.
P.S. For more information, please visit the oficial site for visiting Asturias. You will not regret it!

]]>This is a great day trip with kids. There are several Navieras located at the Estación Martítima in the city of Vigo, with many connections every 30 minutes between Vigo and Cies Islands. Most of them have special promotions for families (kids normally travel for free) and it is always recommended to book the tickets online in advance.
Cies Islands are part of the NAtional Sea and Land Park of the Atlatic Islands of Galicia since 2002. This paradise is just set between the Atlantic and the Ria de Vigo. This Natural protected area is an incomparable natural paradise that should be visited once in a lifetime.
Rodas Beach is awarded each year with the European Union Blue Flag. Its kilometre long stretch of sand joins two of the 3 islands (North and Middle), a peculiarity that adds to the beauty of this spot.
The Cies Islands, declared an Area of Special Protection for Birds since 1988. The most representative ecosystems in the National Sea and Land Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia are the cliffs, dune systems, marine bottoms, woodlands and beaches.
