Cooking with kids: A Taste of the World

If you have been reading World Kids for a while, you probably know how much we love celebrating with food and enjoy cooking with our kids.

Today, we add to the category of our favorite cooking activities the book “A Taste of the World. What people eat and how they celebrate around the globe”, illustrated and written by Beth Walrond, and edited and designed by Little Gestalten, whose high-quality books we love and cannot keep recommending enough.

This is not a book to make your kids become chefs but to show them how much history, knowledge, traditions, celebrations, heritage, and culture intertwine through food. Food is an integral part of any culture and often one of the best parts of travel.

A Taste of the World illustrates the different food cultures worldwide and how people celebrate with food at over 20 festivals, like Christmas, Carnival, Thanksgiving, and Diwali. It is amazing to see how New Year’s celebration is honored in countries like Ethiopia, China, Thailand, and Iran.

A Taste of the World presents kids also different dishes, myths, ingredients, and flavors of countries like Spain, Canada, Italy, France, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico… It also explains to them the different customs, ways to eat, and tools used around the world and how food is grown and made.

Full of fun facts and stunning illustrations, A Taste of the World shows kids that food is unique and different in each country, but it can also be a connector for people worldwide. Food offers the possibility to foster cultural appreciation and enjoy living on a multicultural planet.
