MUNICH & KIDS: MUNICH CHRISTMAS MARKET
My family and I have just arrived from a short trip to Munich.
One of the biggest attractions is the traditional Munich Christkindlmarkt (Munich Christmas Market).
This Christmas Market is also known as the “Original”, as it is the oldest Christmas market in the city. The origins of this Market are reported to date back to the so-called “Nicholaus Markets” of the 14th Century.
Munich holds its traditional Christmas Market from November 27th to 24th December 2015.
The Christkindlmarkt is held in front of the Rathaus (Munich Town Hall) at Marienplatz (Sr. Mary’s Square) in a prime location in the pedestrian heart of the city.
A huge Christmas tree covered in lights towers over the many stands all aglow with pre-Christmas magic.
It is the idyllic setting for buying all kinds of Christmas gifts: authentic wood carvings, Bavarian gifts, crystal Christmas ornaments, the typical Christmas Tree red apple ornaments, Gingerbread from Nuremberg and traditional toys.
The market opens each day from 10 to 21 hours, except on Sundays that closes at 8 pm and on Christmas Eve (at 14.00 hours).
Advent music is performed live every evening at 5.30 p.m. from the balcony of the Town Hall. It is an amazing experience for the whole family!
For our stay, we choose Novotel München City for its wonderful location. The hotel offers excellent connection to the S8 line that takes you to the airport in 40 minutes and both Marienplatz Square and Munich Central Station are just 5 minutes away by S-Bahn train.
It is a nice family 4* hotel with swimming pool, playroom, and a wonderful breakfast. Staff was really kind and they even surprised our kids with these delicious chocolates on Saint Nicholas Day.
