DREAM SNOW BY ERIC CARLE

Eric Carle  is a venerable and prolific author who has created a wonderful series of children’s books, including the famous ” The Hungry Caterpillar” loved by children worldwide.  All his amazing stories are simple with beautifully colored pictures.

Eric Carle’s new picture book Dream Snow (we have read the Spanish version edited by Editorial Kokinos) is a cute Christmas story with a little music at the end. This is a charming, gentle winter story the entire family will love reading at Christmas and a sure classic in years to come.

Dream Snow first introduces the farmer, who lives with his 5 farm animals. It’s almost Christmas and it hasn’t snowed yet. One evening the farmer falls asleep in his favorite chair and dreams that all his animals are covered with a blanket of snow. When he awakens, he finds that it actually has snowed! So, he grabs a big box, throws a sack over his shoulder and decorates The Tree  with his farm animals.

Eric Carle‘s illustrations are wonderful, painting the snow flakes on clear plastic which, when lifted reveals one of the animals on the page below.

The pictures are in Eric Carle’s trademark richly colored and textured collages. The book finishes with a pushing button and a little holiday song at the end.

I could not think of a better book for parents and children for these cold and cozy winter nights.
