HARRY POTTER BROOMSTICK TRAINING AT ALNWICK CASTLE

05/13/2020,

Would you like to take part in the famous Broomstick Training session on the very spot where Harry Potter had his first flying lesson? Today we travel to Northern England to visit the famous Alnwick Castle, used as a filming location of both the Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets

Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England; it has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percys, for over 700 years. In recent years it has also taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions, featuring Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films and as a location for Downton Abbey.

Harry Potter and his classmates learned to fly broomsticks with Madam Hooch on the Outer Bailey of the Alnwick Castle, which is also where Harry learned to play the wizarding sport Quidditch.

In the castle’s courtyards, Harry and his friends walked to class, and Ron crashed his dad’s flying car. Here you can also search for their route to Hagrid’s hut and the Forbidden Forest.

Each summer, just before school starts again, the Alnwick Castle organizes a wizarding week for Harry Potter fans and mini-wizards from all over the world.

In addition, the Castle provides “Broomstick Training sessions” throughout the year that last approximately 25 minutes and take place at various times daily. There is no age limit and the wizard- professors will teach kids and adults to learn to mount and dismount, corner and maneuver and accelerate and decelerate.

Sessions are free and truly popular. You cannot but tickets in advance, so we recommend arriving at Alnwick Castle as early as possible and collect your tickets straight away to avoid disappointment.

The Alnwick Castle is a great day excursion from Edinburgh (we traveled by train) and a good compliment to the city’s Harry Potter Tour.

Don’t forget to bring your Harry Potter costume and wand! You will enjoy a magical and unforgettable day!
